Barnsley boss issues verdict on Derby County transfer as Paul Warne coy on key decision’

Latest Derby County news from Derbyshire Live brings you what Neill Collins has said about the arrival of Dwight Gayle

Dwight Gayle is a “fantastic” addition to Derby County, according to Neill Collins, who also acknowledges that Barnsley is still keeping an eye on the free agent market.

Gayle signed with the Rams on Monday, and he is expected to be in the starting lineup for tomorrow’s game against the Tykes at Oakwell. Gayle agreed to leave Stoke City on the day of the transfer deadline, and he signed on a free transfer until the end of the season.

Charlton and Port Vale were also interested in the 34-year-old but Derby sealed the deal to help cope with the loss of James Collins through injury. Asked about Derby’s move for Gayle, Collins said: “Derby had a specific issue with their number nine, and the injuries they have had, so Dwight Gayle is a fantastic addition for them.

We thought about each of these possibilities. We are always considering our strengths. Our group exhibits a great sense of togetherness and mindset. We need to be quite certain about everybody who enters at this point. They must play a very precise role, and we must have faith that they will help us achieve our goals. Although we’re continuously looking, we don’t currently believe anyone is capable of doing it.
