Derby County boss sends Portsmouth warning as promotion

All the latest surrounding Portsmouth and their League One rivals amid the international break.

At the top of League One, Portsmouth is still in charge of their own destiny and is only a few victories away from returning to the Championship. With nine points more than Bolton in third place, Pompey has had an incredible season thus far. John Mousinho’s team might be just three or four games away from securing a top two position.

However, there is still work to be done, so all attention will be focused on getting back to work as soon as the international break ends. We have compiled the most recent information on Portsmouth and their competitors in the interim.

Derby boss Paul Warne claims he and his men are still ‘chasing down’ Portsmouth in the promotion chase despite the most essential thing being retaining third place below them.
“Like we haven’t accomplished anything, so we still have a lot of points to play for—21 is a ridiculous number, and we’re still attempting to catch up to Portsmouth, who is currently ahead of us. We therefore have a lot to gain, and anyone who believes we have accomplished anything is crazy.

In other news, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic have been punished for an altercation that occurred during their match on February 27. The two groups of players fought during the game, resulting in a large-scale altercation.

That time, Wigan did Portsmouth a favour and defeated Bolton; as a result of the scrappy incident, Wigan was fined £5,000 and Bolton £2,500. The commission concluded that Bolton was “marginally more to blame for what happened,” but Wigan’s fine was raised as they had already been found guilty of misconduct four times.
