Derby County sent ‘perfect’ message after Barnsley and Bolton drama in huge promotion scrap’

Latest Derby County news from Derbyshire Live brings you reaction after Bolton roared back to secure a 2-2 draw in stoppage time

After Bolton’s thrilling late 2-2 draw with Barnsley last night, Derby County fell to third in the League One standings.

After a late comeback at Oakwell, when Randell Williams scored in the 98th minute to earn a draw after Josh Sheehan’s penalty was saved, Ian Evatt’s team climbed over Paul Warne’s Rams.

With the same amount of games played, they currently lead Derby by a point and are ranked second in the table as a result of that outcome. Barnsley is still in fourth place in what is becoming into an exciting race for automatic promotion, but they do have a game in hand. They will also be one point ahead of the Rams heading into the finals if they win that.

However, the draw between Barnsley and Bolton yesterday night was the best result in the overall struggle for the top two. Derby still has a match against Bolton later this month, which is expected to be a big one at Pride Park because the Trotters have already sold out of their 3,000 allotment.

Derby has the greatest goal differential in the league with +30, and it appears that this advantage may prove to be crucial at the end of the season. What Rams supporters thought of the drama at Oakwell last night is shown below.

Derby Lad: I would have ripped your hands off if Bolton had two games remaining on the same points and they were only one point ahead of us.

1884 Dodgers: Pompey can’t possibly botch it now, can he? It appears from what’s on here that their supporters don’t think so, and to be honest, I don’t either. I believe 5/6 wins. Regarding ourselves, I’m remaining true to my preseason pick of fourth place and play-off purgatory. #dcfc

James Phillips: “For the time being, we should put the Bolton game behind us and concentrate on the next two.” All well and good to build up to that game, but by then we might fall behind them by seven points. For many years, we have struggled with getting ahead of ourselves.”

Charlie Wilkinson: “We gained the most from tonight’s outcome in placing second, but if Bolton had prevailed, we undoubtedly would have been third. However, a draw would cause us to finish the season in fourth place.”

Bassist Deep: “Bolton draws and advances to second. We lose one point and fall to third. Overall, it wasn’t an awful outcome for us. We’re playing Bolton on March 16; it should be an exciting match.

Jonny said: “Draw is a perfect result there, Bolton run in looks very tough but all down to us now – bring it on!”

JKDCFC: “I know we wanted a score of 0-0, but you have to hope that will really shake Barnsley, as they dropped two points from a 2-0 lead in the 98th minute due to a penalty. At the end of the season, that draw might be quite significant for both Bolton and ourselves. So tight right now.”

Barnsley appeared to be a pony. Bolton looked relentless at that point and really turned it on. Be a game at Pride Park, but I really believe that we have the power. Barnsley will give up more ground.
