3 basic alternatives Derby County can eye amid transfer battle

Portsmouth, Derby County, and Oxford United are all headed to the Championship, but a player from the latter is still attracting attention from the automatic promotion winners.

Josh Murphy sees his deal at the Kassam Stadium expire this summer and Pompey and the Rams are both rumoured to be eyeing him as a potential transfer target.

The former Norwich City player has stated a wish to stay with the Yellows, but only time will tell how things work out. Regardless, his supporters should consider other possibilities.

Here are three Murphy alternatives that Portsmouth and Derby County should examine.

Sotiriou is a versatile forward who has spent more time on the flanks than up front this season.

He scored 12 goals and provided five assists in 47 games across all competitions. The 23-year-old handled the step up to League One in stride, and while it may take some time to settle in, the Cyprus international could have a future in the Championship.

As an out-of-contract player, he could be a wise investment for the future as a flexible, gifted striker.

If either Portsmouth or Derby County are willing to take a different approach, young Arsenal sensation Amario Cozier-Duberry might be an appealing target as his contract with the Gunners expires.

After another successful season at youth level, in which he scored nine goals and five assists in 17 PL2 games, the 18-year-old is ready for a step up to senior football, which could come away from North London.

He is sure to have many admirers, some of whom may be at a higher level. However, the prospect of a senior breakthrough may entice the kid.
Last but not least, Belgian winger Boussaid is one to consider if Portsmouth or Derby County want to broaden their hunt for a deal.

The 24-year-old’s contract with Eredivisie side Utrecht expires this summer, and after four goals and three assists this season, he could be well-positioned for an opportunity in the Championship.

He’s comfortable on both wings and has a lot of good-level experience, but a new challenge abroad would appeal to him.
