Ian Evatt agrees with Paul Warne as countdown

Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you what the Bolton manager said last night about the clash at Pride Park this weekend

According to Ian Evatt, this weekend’s tantalising match between Bolton Wanderers and Derby County is “not do or die”.

With the Rams in second place and Bolton in third, the two teams are vying for automatic promotion in one of the biggest games of the season on Saturday.

However, Derby’s head coach Paul Warne downplayed the importance of the game Friday night, acknowledging that they aren’t giving it any more thought than usual. Bolton manager Evatt, whose team defeated Oxford United the previous night, concurred that, with eight games remaining in the season and the promotion race being so close, the outcome on Saturday will probably not affect it in the end.

“We’ve got a big game on Saturday, but we must remember it’s not do or die,” he added. “There’s still a lot of football to be played. We’re in a pretty good position, a strong position, that we need to continue with and if we perform like that will not have too much to worry about.

“That’s the standard for us and I will hold the players accountable if they dip below that. When they play like that they make me very proud.

“We have a string of home games coming up after these two extremely challenging road games against challenging opponents. We want to be right in the thick of everything right now. We’re a group of fighters who want to battle for this football team and do everything in our power to try and qualify for the Championship, so it will come down to the wire.
