As York City’s battle to avoid the drop continues to the final day of the Vanarama National League season, two teams suffered the unfortunate fate of relegation in the penultimate weekend of the campaign.
Dorking Wanderers and Kidderminster Harriers’ relegations were confirmed on Saturday afternoon after both sides failed to win, with the two teams returning to regional football.
Kidderminster have dropped back into the Vanarama National League North in their debut season in the fifth tier, after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Eastleigh.
Paul McCallum bagged a 32nd minute winner to take his tally in the National League to 30 goals, with the Spitfires themselves now safe from relegation after defeating City 1-0 the weekend prior.
In their first season in the fifth division, Kidderminster has fallen back into the Vanarama National League North following a close 1-0 loss to Eastleigh.
Paul McCallum scored the game’s winning goal in the 32nd minute to bring his goal total in the National League to 30, and the Spitfires, who had defeated City 1-0 the previous weekend, are now safe from relegation.
Even though Kidderminster has struggled to survive this season, the Harriers have had a minor resurgence under manager Phil Brown following their early January split from former York midfielder Russ Penn.
The Minstermen were defeated 1-0 at home in the opening game of the season and drew 0-0 in March, failing to defeat Kidderminster in any of the two matches this season.
Thursday night is the League South championship game.
Yeovil defeated Truro City on Thursday, securing promotion thanks to goals from Rhys Murphy and Alex Fisher, which also made the Glovers the mathematical victors.
Yeovil’s rapid return to the fifth division after being relegated the previous season prevented Chelmsford City and Worthing from catching up to them. This was Mark Cooper’s club.
The League South championship game is on Thursday night.
