Paolo Banchero, a product of Duke basketball, not only scored thirty points on Thursday night, but he also made the easy game-winning jumper.
Paolo Banchero, the current NBA Rookie of the Year, did not enjoy the spectacular debut week that many may have anticipated from him in his second professional season. That was altered for the 2021–22 Duke basketball team’s one-and-done game on Thursday night when the Orlando Magic defeated the Utah Jazz 115–113 on the road.

In his 36 minutes on the court, Banchero—who went first overall in the 2022 NBA Draft—finished with 30 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks. He is only one week away from turning 21. He made 9 of 13 field goals, 1 of 2 shots from beyond the arc, and 11 of 15 shots from the charity stripe.
With 14.1 seconds remaining, Banchero completed his effort with the game-winning basket, a clever and confident left-handed layup in traffic that gave the Magic a 114-113 advantage.
His season averages increased to 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.0 steals after his outstanding performance.
Wendell Carter Jr., a 24-year-old centre who plays with Banchero in the Magic frontcourt, is another former Duke basketball player who played one year for Orlando. In his 29 minutes of play, Carter Jr. finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and one block.
Orlando (3-2), who has bounced back from a five-game losing run to start the 2022–23 season, will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at home. Notably, 24-year-old NBA Blue Devil and former one-and-done Cam Reddish of the Lakers is headed to his first start as a Laker.
