Head coach Jon Scheyer has inked the top recruiting haul for the second time in three trips through the recruiting process, and a top-two class for the third time in three seasons
With the end of the sport’s early signing period, Duke Basketball has revealed the signing of a five-man recruiting class.
The second-year head coach of the Blue Devils has recruited the top class in the nation, as seen by the recruiting calendar covering the previous two plus seasons.
DURHAM — Jon Scheyer, the head coach of Duke men’s basketball, announced the signing of five players to the class of 2024 during the NCAA early signing period, marking his second consecutive year as the top recruiter.
Scheyer would ink the top class for 2022 and the No. 2 group for 2023, making this the third consecutive top-two class for Scheyer. In each of the last 11 seasons, the programme has signed a class ranked in the top three with Scheyer as part of its coaching team. Scheyer will have assisted in bringing a No. 1 class to Durham for the sixth time in the last 11 years if the Blue Devils finish the 2024 cycle with the best class.
“I’m very proud of this group,” said Scheyer. “There’s great versatility, and each and every one of them brings a high level of competitiveness and toughness to our program. Just as importantly, off the court, they’re all amazing people with great character. Their desire to win while helping to make their teammates better stands out, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to coach them. Our staff has done a fantastic job, and we’re so excited to welcome these five to Duke basketball and the Brotherhood.”
Four players in the five-player class are ranked in the top 20 by 247Sports, with Cooper Flagg, the top overall prospect, leading the group. According to ESPN or 247Sports, four of the signees—Flagg (Maine), Isaiah Evans (North Carolina), Kon II Knueppel (Wisconsin), and Patrick Ngongba II (Virginia)—are the best players in their respective states.
