Duke Basketball Announces Signing of ‘Big-Time Shooter’

Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer has a clutch bucket-getter on tap in Darren Harris.

Darren Harris, a senior at Paul VI Catholic High School in Virginia, is the lowest-ranked player in the five-deep, top-rated Duke basketball recruiting class. He is ranked 57th on the 247Sports 2024 Composite. The lone four-star in the group is the 6-foot-6, 195-pound wing.

However, he committed to Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils earlier in the cycle than anyone else. He made his promise known more than a year ago.

Furthermore, keep in mind that Harris—who finished with 28 points on 10-of-15 field goal shooting and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc—was the one who captured the Peach Jam title in July thanks to his timely baskets during the championship game.

Scheyer mentioned that display in the program’s videos this week to officially announce the newly inked signees’ addition to the Blue Devils.

“I’m very excited to welcome Darren Harris to ‘The Brotherhood,'” Scheyer said. “Darren’s been a guy that has been battle-tested for a long time. He’s played for one of the premier high school programs in the country in Paul VI…He’s also played for one of the premier AAU programs in Team Takeover.

“He’s achieved success. This past summer, his team took home the Peach Jam championship. Additionally, he is a man who steps up when things become tough. In the final, he scored 28 points. He is a really skilled shot.”
Darren Harris has been a longtime fan of the Blue Devils, much like Cooper Flagg, the top-ranked basketball prospect signed by Duke in 2024.
“He’s been somebody that’s really dreamed about coming to Duke for some time,” Scheyer said. “So, I know he’ll be all-in when he gets here.”

Two Paul VI Catholic standouts, including five-star centre Patrick Ngongba II, are committed to Duke for the upcoming academic year. Darren Harris is one of them. The current senior co-captain in Durham and recent Blue Devil one-and-done guard Trevor Keels both came from this same scholastic powerhouse guard Jeremy Roach.
