Duke Basketball: Cooper Flagg’s mom Helps Recruit Five-Star class Guard’

They already have a five-deep 2024 haul that is the best in the country. Nonetheless, Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff appear to be eyeing two additional uncommitted high school seniors: Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) five-star guard VJ Edgecombe and NBA Academy Africa five-star centre Khaman Maluach.

Edgecombe, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound explosive player ranked fifth in the 247Sports 2024 Composite, has the Blue Devils among his 11 finalists and visited Duke the same weekend as Countdown to Craziness.

He was there during the cycle with the program’s now-signed players, including the top-ranked prep in Montverde (Fla.) five-star forward Cooper Flagg.

According to recent social media activity from Flagg’s mother, Kelly Flagg, it appears like Scheyer & Co. are still in the running for Edgecombe. That makes sense, given that the 247Sports Crystal Ball continues to favour the Blue Devils.

Is Kelly Flagg aware of what is going on behind the scenes? One can safely presume she knows more than most.

Her effort for Duke in the race should also help.

Meanwhile, Edgecombe recently stated that he has no further visits scheduled and would most likely reveal his choice in the coming months.

Flagg signed his national letter of intent in November, along with five-star centre Patrick Ngongba II of Paul VI Catholic (Va.), four-star forward Darren Harris of Paul VI Catholic, five-star forward Isaiah Evans of North Meck (N.C.), and four-star forward Kon Knueppel of Wisconsin Lutheran.
