Social media has taken centre stage in the new era of recruiting coverage, and Dylan Harper, a target for Duke basketball, may have become an expert at online trolling.
On Monday, it was found that Harper had pinned his Instagram photos from his trips to Duke and Indiana at the top of his profile and removed several images from his formal visit to Rutgers.
Since the early summer, the Scarlet Knights have been seen as the favourites to sign Harper, and in the past few months, not much has changed in terms of his recruitment.
The New Jersey native named five finalists: Duke, Rutgers, Indiana, Kansas, and Auburn. At various stages of his decision-making process, each school was thought to have some momentum.

The standout from Don Bosco Prep (NJ) has also hinted at a possible commitment a few times, but his most recent remarks in public indicated that he would hold off on making a decision until after his high school season.

On social media, some have conjectured that Dylan Harper deleted his Rutgers uniform photos only to avoid having a double post of the Scarlet Knights on his feed, which is reportedly frowned upon by teenagers these days. This would be consistent with the most recent 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction, which had a confidence rating of seven and was logged for his hometown programme by Eric Bossi, the site’s National Ba
sketball Director.
Some are interpreting it superficially to suggest he is no longer thinking about Rutgers and will choose between Duke and Indiana. Apart from his first Instagram post showcasing his Top-5 schools, he does not feature Kansas or Auburn.
Dylan Harper was ranked as the top player in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports Composite, but Cooper Flagg swiftly overtook him as the undisputed top recruit after deciding to reclassify from the 2025 class. Duke basketball is still on a roll when it comes to recruiting.
Flagg ultimately chose Duke over UConn, helping the Blue Devils rise to the top of the nation’s recruiting class alongside four-star recruit Darren Harris and five-star prospects Isaiah Evans, Patrick Ngongba, and Kon Knueppel.
For the record, each of the five signees from Duke has multiple Instagram posts featuring them in Blue Devil gear, whether it be from visits, commitment posts, or reposts following their National Letter of Intent signing.

With Ace Bailey, the third overall recruit, leading the nation’s 11th best recruiting class, Rutgers is currently ranked third.
According to the majority of reports, the Blue Devils decided to stick with 5-star wing VJ Edgecombe and stopped pursuing Harper in favour of its other targets.
Dylan Harper certainly knows how to create buzz and a conversation about his future plans, but it’s unclear if his recent social media activity means anything significant.
