Duke basketball sophomore Mark Mitchell will not play against Dartmouth.

The preseason No. 2 Blue Devils (2023–24) will not have sophomore basketball player Mark Mitchell on the court when they play Dartmouth at home.

About an hour before tipoff, the show broke the news on social media, mentioning a lower-body ailment and saying that the forward is “day-to-day.”

Former five-star prospect Mitchell, a McDonald’s All-American from Kansas City, Kansas, started 35 games for the 2022–23 Blue Devils but was sidelined the day before by a knee injury, which prevented him from playing in the season’s last game, a loss to Tennessee in the Round of 32 in Orlando.

Wednesday night’s 109-64 victory over UNC Pembroke in Cameron Indoor Stadium, the only basketball exhibition game played by Duke, featured 19 minutes of starting time from 20-year-old Mark Mitchell, who finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and three assists.

Last season, he averaged 9.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 46.9 percent from the field.

Mark Mitchell is one of eight returning scholarship players and four returning starters for the second campaign under Jon Scheyer’s command.

There’s no word yet on who will draw the starting nod in Mitchell’s absence.

Following the matchup against Dartmouth, the Blue Devils have a few days off before hosting preseason No. 12 Arizona on Friday night. Maybe Mitchell will see some action against the Wildcats. Or perhaps he won’t.
