Duke Basketball Forward Out With Knee Injury

Duke basketball is without the services of Mark Mitchell against Georgia Tech.

When the 11th-ranked Blue Devils (12-3, 3-1 ACC) play unranked Georgia Tech (8-7, 1-3 ACC) on Saturday night at home, sophomore Mark Mitchell of Duke basketball is a no-go. Thirty minutes prior to tipoff, the programme made the announcement on social media about the 20-year-old starting forward’s damaged knee.

The exact moment that Mitchell was hurt is still unknown. He’s wearing street clothes, sitting on the bench, and he doesn’t appear to be limping at all.

In his 14 games this season, Mitchell, a possible first-round pick in 2024, is averaging 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds. He most recently combined for 44 points and 20 boards in victories against Syracuse and Notre Dame.

In lieu of Mark Mitchell, sophomore guard Tyrese Proctor was reinserted into the starting lineup for Duke basketball. The other players in the lineup were freshman guards Jared McCain and Caleb Foster, senior guard Jeremy Roach, and sophomore forward Kyle Filipowski.

Since the Blue Devils’ defeat at Georgia Tech on December 2 by a score of 72–68, they have won seven straight. Proctor suffered a sprained ankle early in that competition, which prevented him from playing for four weeks.

Duke will take a week off after the match against the Yellow Jackets before facing Pitt, which is rated lower, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.

With 10:11 left in the first half, the Blue Devils were ahead of Georgia Tech, 24-18, at the time this item was published.
