Duke basketball: Key 2024 target cuts list again, sets commitment date

A prominent Duke basketball prospect has narrowed down his options and established a commitment date.

While Cooper Flagg garnered most of the attention during his formal visit to the Duke basketball programme last weekend, VJ Edgecombe and 5-star prospect Patrick Ngongba II were also in Durham for a meeting with the Blue Devils.

After spending more time in Durham, Ngongba II decided to narrow down his list of potential opponents to just Kansas State, Kentucky, or the Blue Devils. Duke was originally listed as one of his Top 8 candidates.

The 6-foot-10 forward will make his official announcement on Saturday, November 4, after officially visiting all three of the programmes.

He eliminated Michigan, Providence, UConn, Indiana, and Kansas from his list.

Following his two trips to Duke, Ngongba has only visited one school, Kentucky.

This weekend, he is expected to make his second visit to Kansas State.

Based on reports and other considerations, in addition to the number of times he visited the institutions, it appears that Kansas State and Duke are the two favourites.

Two FutureCast Predictions from Rivals were recorded in the last two days, for Kansas State.

Duke basketball lacking major position in recruiting class

Patrick Ngongba II is listed as the No. 25 recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and the No. 5 center in the nation.

The Blue Devils have always been on the radar of Ngongba II but felt like its pursuit of the Paul VI (Va.) standout picked up when Flory Bidunga, another 5-star center in the class, picked Auburn over Duke and others.

A paint-dominant big man is the one missing piece for Duke in this recruiting class, so Scheyer may have some work to do if he wants to bring Patrick Ngongba to Durham. According to 247Sports, Jon Scheyer currently has the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation with 5-star standouts Isaiah Evans and Kon Knueppel pledged to the programme as well as 4-star wing Darren Harris. Harris, Ngongba’s high school teammate, added to the list of players from Paul VI to commit to Duke like current senior point guard Jeremy Roach and former one-and-done Trevor Keels.
