Duke Basketball: Latest on Injuries to Two Blue Devil Starters

Jon Scheyer hasn’t ruled out Jeremy Roach or Mark Mitchell for the next Duke basketball outing.

It sounds like there’s a chance that full-time Duke basketball starters Jeremy Roach and Mark Mitchell will both be in action when the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (13-3, 4-1 ACC) host unranked Pitt (10-6, 1-4 ACC) at 8 p.m. ET Saturday. Then again, it’s possible neither will play as they recover from their knee injuries.

“We got imaging done for Jeremy,” second-year Duke head coach Jon Scheyer noted during Monday’s ACC teleconference about the senior guard’s status following the injury he sustained midway through the second half of Saturday’s 84-79 home win over Georgia Tech. “We got positive news, where we don’t feel it’s anything serious

“I’m hoping for Saturday, but I doubt he’ll be able to practise for the next few days.Mark, the same situation.”

Mitchell did not play on Saturday. The Duke basketball social media team revealed his sprained knee thirty minutes prior to tipoff. The sophomore forward missed the first game of the season due to an ankle injury, so this was his second absence of the year.

Along with freshman guard Jared McCain and sophomore forward Kyle Filipowski, Roach is one of three Blue Devils who have played and started every game this season. Roach returned to the court against Georgia Tech for less than a minute before sitting back to the bench.

With 14.6 and 12.2 points per game, respectively, Jeremy Roach and Mark Mitchell are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 among Duke players in terms of scoring.
