Duke Signee Remarks on Blue Devils, ‘Bandwagon’ Fans Sport

Future Duke basketball talent Isaiah Evans believes Jon Scheyer’s second squad is “figuring it out.”

As a longtime Duke basketball enthusiast before announcing his commitment to Jon Scheyer and his staff in April, North Meck (N.C.) five-star forward Isaiah Evans should already have some understanding of the impatient, overreactive criticisms that come with being a player for the five-time national champs. And it sounds like he does.

The Duke signee gave League Ready an overview of what he’s seen from the 2023–24 Blue Devils during the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, which had them ranked No. 2. After three straight losses, they dropped to No. 22, but they are currently at No. 16 after defeating Baylor, who was ranked 10th, last week.

Evans made reference to the “bandwagon” fans. Evans is a 6-foot-6, 170-pound powerful bucket-getter who is ranked No. 13 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite. He will join at least four other highly anticipated recruits in Durham next year.

Evans told League Ready, “I think teams win games and they lose games.” When they think you’re not living up to their expectations, people will jump on the bandwagon and get off. However, I believe they are making progress. I believe they’re going to gel well together and compete fiercely.”

At this same point in last season, Scheyer’s Blue Devils had suffered three losses in his first season as head coach. After that, they had a concerning 7–5 record for the following six weeks, but they eventually won 10 straight games—three of which were in Greensboro—to win the ACC Tournament.

However, there will undoubtedly be people constantly hitting the panic button on social media if Scheyer’s second Duke basketball team struggles over the coming weeks.

However, Isaiah Evans is not likely to be one of them.
