Jon Scheyer makes first comments about Cooper Flagg

It has been a long time since Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer could not comment publicly about top ranked recruit Cooper Flagg, but now he finally has the chance.

Flagg last week signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) with the Blue Devils. The Duke Office of Compliance has since received and processed the papers, allowing Scheyer to brag about the star of his recruiting class.

Press announcement and social media post from Scheyer stated, “It’s been an honour for me to get to know Cooper as a person for some time now.”

“His outstanding versatility and competitive nature speak for themselves as a player.”

Before reclassifying soon after his unofficial visit to Duke in August, Flagg was a 2025 recruit. He then leapt Dylan Harper, another Blue Devil target, to become the undisputed top-ranked player in the Class of 2024.

Before moving to the national powerhouse Montverde Academy (Fla.), he averaged 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds as a freshman, earning him the title of Maine Gatorade Player of the Year.
