Son of Duke Basketball Great Discusses ‘Not a Lock’ Decision’

Duke basketball target Cayden Boozer isn’t ready to name any favorites yet.

Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer wasted no time entering the recruitment of Cameron and Cayden Boozer, the five-star twin sons of 2001 Blue Devil national champion and two-time NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer. They landed an offer from Duke in May 2022, roughly six months before Scheyer’s first season as head coach began.

Now, chances are Duke will remain alive in its pursuit of the Columbus High School (Fla.) juniors for many months to come.

However, outside of the fact that their father is Blue Devil royalty and they took an official visit to Durham in November alongside their Duke alum mother, there’s no concrete evidence to view Scheyer and his gang as the outright frontrunner for their celebrated services.

In a recent chat with Rivals’ Krysten Peek, Cayden Boozer confirmed as much. That said, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard, No. 14 overall on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, touched on his takeaways from the Duke visit and certainly didn’t rule out the Blue Devils as a full-fledged contender.

“It was a great visit,” the 16-year-old told Peek. “They played Arizona when I was there. It was just a wonderful mood. Obviously, I’m not guaranteed to get anyplace. But it was an excellent experience, and I have nothing negative to say about it.”

He’s also not a lock to go wherever Cameron Boozer, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward boasting the No. 2 composite ranking in the cycle, decides to play in college before potentially becoming a one-and-done lottery pick.

“We’re not a package deal,” Cayden Boozer told Peek, echoing what his brother has said on multiple occasions. “If we can play together, and the playing style suits both of us, that is something we would definitely consider.

“I am still looking at schools as an individual. If we could play together, it would be fantastic. But we’re certainly not a package deal.”

According to 247Sports, their offer sheets continue to include less than a dozen colleges. Bluebloods Kentucky, UNC, and, of course, Duke have all entered the battle, as has hometown prospect and longstanding suitor Miami.

So yet, only Duke, Kentucky, Miami, and Florida have hosted them for official visits. Furthermore, the Boozer brothers have not announced a definitive date for their decisions or any plans to look into other programmes.

Meanwhile, the Duke basketball staff has targeted but not yet signed six other 2025 recruits, all of whom are five-star prospects.
