Duke Basketball Reveals ‘Their Funeral’ Jerseys for Arkansas Game

Duke basketball will be back in black against the Razorbacks

In the first-ever ACC/SEC Challenge, the No. 7 Blue Devils (5-1, 0-0 ACC) will don the program’s black jerseys for the first time this season when they play unranked Arkansas (4-3, 0-0 SEC) on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. ET. Late on Monday night, the show used social media to reveal the new look.

The black threads have been a part of the Blue Devils’ uniform since the 1996–1997 season, and they have frequently been associated with major road games ever since.

RJ Barrett, a one-and-done basketball player for Duke, made headlines in 2019 after the Blue Devils upset eventual national champion Virginia in Charlottesville when he talked about the team’s love of dressing in black when travelling.

At the time, Barrett remarked, “We love road games.” We wear black because it’s their funeral, which is the reason.

In their history, Duke and Arkansas have only met four times. Every programme has received two wins. Three of those games took place in the latter stages of the NCAA Tournament. The most recent one took place at the 2022 Elite Eight in San Francisco, where the Blue Devils prevailed 78-69 (notably, it was Mike Krzyzewski’s final victory of his career).

It will be the first time a team in the series plays on the opponent’s home court when Duke takes on them on Wednesday night in their first real road game of the season.

The Blue Devils will have a few days off after their game against the Razorbacks before playing Georgia Tech in their ACC opener on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.
