Dundee pub once popular with football fans sold to businessman

A convenience store is one of the ideas being touted for the former Airlie Arms.

A former Dundee bar that was well-liked by football supporters has been sold.

Late last year, the Airlie Arms, located on Dundonald Street, adjacent to Dens Park and Tannadice Park, closed.

The hospitality company Rosemount Taverns has now sold the property to an unidentified businessman for an undisclosed amount.

The new owner has “big plans” and a “new concept,” according to Christie and Co., the company that handled the sale.

The Courier has heard from sources that it might be converted into a convenience shop, but the agency has not provided any other comments.

Residents react as Airlie Arms pub in Dundee sold

In response to the sale, locals who live close to the Airlie Arms have voiced their optimism that it will be put back into service.

The 28-year-old Emily Canter stated: “I realised it had closed in early December.

It was a pleasant little pub.

I noted that it was bustling mostly on matchdays.

They also organise events.

“People no longer have the funds to spend in bars as they once did.

“Perhaps the space would be more useful as a convenience store.”

“It has been a pub all the time I’ve lived here,” stated Jodie Duncan.

Now that it’s closed, I suppose it will be quieter here on football game days.

“Perhaps a store could better serve the neighbourhood.”

But according to 24-year-old Matus Remenar, who has been in the neighbourhood for more than a year, “It doesn’t put me up or down that it’s closed.”

I guess it will be quieter here on football game days now that it’s closed.

“Perhaps a store could better serve the neighbourhood.”

Matus Remenar, 24, who has lived in the vicinity for over a year, meanwhile, says, “It doesn’t put me up or down that it’s closed.”
