Docherty picks out key failing for Dundee in defeat at Hearts as he explains decision to leave

Following his team’s 2-0 loss at Tynecastle, manager Tony Docherty calls Dundee’s performance against Hearts “uncharacteristic.”

The Dark Blues were clearly second-best against the Premiership’s lowest team in the first half, and a double from Lawrence Shankland put them behind two goals.

Docherty’s first forty-five minutes were unsatisfactory.

The Dundee manager stated, “The main emotion is one of frustration because, for whatever reason, I just think we weren’t at it at all in the first half.”

“We weren’t in a competition. When we tackled it in the second half, I believe we did.

“I don’t want to make excuses, but I believe that the efforts made over the middle of the week may have contributed to it.

Because I’ve seen a few things that aren’t typical of the way we’ve been playing.

We made some bad mistakes, and sometimes when you’re psychologically tired, you make bad choices.

Seb Palmer-Houlden started up top, leaving Simon Murray on the bench for the first time this season in the Premiership.

Fin Robertson was also in, playing left wing-back again. Despite scoring a crucial goal against Motherwell, Scott Tiffoney returned to the bench.

The visiting team played a very bad first half, unable to establish any possession and failing to stop the home team from getting past them.
