Alex Greive reveals overriding emotion after opening Dundee United account

The Tannadice loan hero, though, insists that even while he waited for his first goal in Tangerine, his confidence never wavered.

The 24-year-old Greive scored his first goal in his ninth game for United, but it was just his fourth start, as Jim Goodwin’s team defeated Arbroath 4-0 last Saturday.

Greive enjoyed a cathartic moment in front of the Arabs, despite the fact that he has played a lot of football in wide areas and has not had many clear-cut opportunities.

He grinned and said, “There’s a sense of relief, lots of relief.” “Releasing that burden from my back felt good.”

You do consider the possibility of not scoring, but I never felt more confident. Before every game, I always count on myself to score, and I haven’t had many opportunities to do so.

“It was nice to take my chance, especially since the goal came at Tannadice, as a lot of our games lately have been close.”

Greive: I was always going to pass…

Greive’s brilliant finish against the Lichties came minutes after he unselfishly set up Tony Watt for a tap-in, grabbing a Ross Docherty through ball and shooting past Max Boruc’s legs.

didn’t have to second-guess themselves,” Grieve told Courier Sport. “I was always going to pass it because I felt he was in a better position to score.

“Had I not squared it, I would have heard about it in the car on the way to training!”
Adding to Watt’s man-of-the-match performance, he said: “On Saturday, it was evident how crucial Tony is to this team. He was tracking back and putting in all the hard work, so forget about the two goals.

“It was an excellent show.”

After a run of more stolid performances, United’s free-flowing performance against Arbroath was a nice comprehensive home victory; the Championship race was obviously going to be a slog.

The courage and perseverance shown in recent games against teams like Ayr, Partick, Queen’s Park, and Morton have been more important than the attacking effort last weekend.

And Greive is prepared for another “battle” with a test televised trip to Dunfermline scheduled for this coming Friday.

“Games are tough at this time of the season,” Greive continued. You must put on your boots and prevail in the conflict. The only thing that counts is that we keep winning.
