Durham welcomes new for the upcoming Championship

Peter Siddle will be joining Durham Cricket for a stint in the Vitality County Championship, the Club is pleased to announce.
Siddle’s recruitment follows Scott Boland’s recent foot injury suffered against Warwickshire. His time at Durham has regrettably come to an end, as a recent scan revealed that he will now need extensive recuperation and rehabilitation.

In a swift move, the Club signed fast bowler Siddle from Australia for Durham’s upcoming six County Championship matches. He will be eligible to play against Essex the following week.

Siddle has made 89 appearances for the national team since his debut in 2008 and has amassed 222 wickets from 67 Test matches for Australia. He has participated in all forms for the team.

Between 2008 and 2016, the 39-year-old was a crucial part of Australia’s speed attack. In the 2010–11 Ashes series, he also claimed a hat-trick.

Siddle has been a key player for Victoria since making his first-class debut in 2005. He has amassed a best-of 8/54 record against South Australia.

Throughout his career, he has taken 755 first-class wickets while playing on the English County circuit, spending stints at Essex, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, and most recently, Somerset.

He made an impression at Taunton during his most recent full stint in England, taking 27 first-class wickets at an average of 23.92, with a best of 6/51 against Surrey. With the white ball, he was equally impressive, claiming 17 Vitality Blast wickets at an average of 17.88 and a best of 3/10.

Director of Cricket Marcus North stated: “We needed to replace Scott Boland as soon as possible, and we’ve done that by adding Peter Siddle for the County Championship.” We are really sorry to see Scott go after just one game, and we hope he gets well soon.

“We’re excited to have Pete join us in Durham and see him contribute significantly to our on-field success in the next
