Everton bargains deal for Olympique Ligue 1 midfielder

Everton is reportedly keen on securing a “bargain deal” for Maxence Caqueret, a midfielder from Olympique Lyon, as stated by GiveMeSport.

The publication indicates that, given the financial difficulties faced by the Ligue 1 club, the Toffees are optimistic about taking advantage of this situation to acquire the 24-year-old player.

Lyon’s financial mismanagement has resulted in their provisional relegation from the top tier of French football, prompting the possibility of a fire sale in the upcoming transfer window to generate funds, which Everton is keen to exploit.

The Merseyside club will encounter competition for the signing of Caqueret, as Premier League rival Crystal Palace is also interested in acquiring him.

Maxence Caqueret would represent a valuable addition to Sean Dyche’s team, and Everton may hold an advantage in negotiations compared to other interested parties, given their successful signings of Jake O’Brien and Orel Mangala from the French club last summer.

The Blues are 15th in the league table and have a five-point buffer with the relegation zone, although things could change by the end of the month.

Everton can’t step their foot off the gas with some challenging fixtures up ahead.

Liverpool will make their way to Goodison on Saturday (7 December), followed by games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Dyche could likely find himself out of a job if the Toffees lose their next three matches.

In other Everton news, Abdoulaye Doucoure could leave in January amid interest from Roma.
