Following a’scary’ incident at Goodison Park, Everton manager Dave Lewis apologizes to the supporters.

In response to an incident that happened prior to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Burnley, Dave Lewis has apologized to the Everton supporters (1 November).

The head of security for the Toffees sent a letter to the team’s supporters on Thursday, November 2, via the Daily Mail, following a “scary crush” in which thousands of fans were left stranded outside Goodison Park due to a malfunctioning turnstile.

Lewis apologised for any “inconvenience and discomfort” caused by the incident ahead of the 3-0 victory, adding that the club’s operations team are conducting a “full investigation”.

“I wanted to write to you to apologise for any inconvenience and discomfort you may have encountered upon entering the stadium yesterday,” said Lewis.

“This is not the matchday experience we are seeking to provide. Our operations team are conducting a full investigation.”

This was an extremely dangerous situation and shouldn’t be happening at events where so many people are trying to get into a stadium at the same time.

Everton have insisted that safety was never compromised, but those who were stuck outside probably wouldn’t agree that was the case.

There were reportedly children crying in what was no doubt a really scary moment for people and the club’s response just doesn’t seem quite good enough.

It also meant a number of the supporters missed the tributes to Bill Kenwright before the game as they queued outside of Goodison for up to an hour.

Fortunately for those fans who were stuck in the chaos, the Blues then turned up on the pitch to secure a convincing victory and their place in the next round of the competition.
