Exeter City ‘deserved something’ after positive performance*

Tom Carroll, a midfielder for Exeter City, acknowledged that his team was upset not to have won anything from their trip to Peterborough United. On Saturday, City gave a good performance, more than matching the promotion-chasing teams for extended stretches, but lost 2-1.

Four minutes had passed when Ephron Mason-Clark gave Posh the lead, but Carroll’s goal in the 36th minute gave City the equaliser they so richly deserved.

The 31-year-old scored his first goal for the Grecians and his first goal in over six years with a shot from the edge of the area that took a clever deflection and sailed over Jed Steer.

Carroll remarked, “Coming away from nothing after a really good performance is the big disappointment.” It is sad to not win anything because, in my opinion, this are the best team in the league and we had opportunities. We may be pleased with the performance, though, and there are many aspects to be grateful for.

“They score a goal with their first attack after we had a strong start, tried to control the game, and were in the final third. Even though it was difficult, we persevered and successfully completed the first half. We dipped a little too far and failed to rise to the occasion against such teams, and it will cost you.

“It was a good performance coming away from home against a team like this; the only disappointing thing is that we didn’t leave with the points, which is what matters.” “We deserved something from the game.”

Regarding his personal objective, which was just his eighth of his career, he declared, “I’m taking it! Despite the significant amount of luck involved.” I had a celebration for my little man today while he was here. Without shooting, you cannot score, thus I’m hoping to score more and better goals.

Posh’s victory put them in fifth place in the standings as they persisted in their efforts to move up from the third division. City’s loss kept them in 15th place in the League.
