Kevin McDonald left Bradford City in August, and he has now rejoined his old team, Exeter City.
For a year, Bradford City only had Kevin McDonald, a seasoned midfielder, on their roster.
After leaving Exeter City, the Scot joined the Bantams in the summer of 2023. He played 23 games for the team in all competitions and contributed three assists. After Mark Hughes was fired, McDonald even managed four victories, one draw, and three loses over his eight games as Valley Parade’s interim manager.
At the end of August, McDonald would depart from the League Two team, and he hasn’t played since. But as of right now, the midfield player is back in his accustomed environment.
League One team Exeter City has taken steps to rehire the former Sheffield United and Fulham player for a second stint after he left Bradford City.
Prior to signing his short-term contract, McDonald trained with the Grecians for a few months. In addition to his playing duties, the athlete has confirmed that he would help mentor the next generation of St. James Park kids.
McDonald’s first Grecians stint
McDonald, a midfield veteran, was only with Exeter City for six months when he left at the end of his contract to join League Two Bradford City.
During that time, the 36-year-old participated in 11 games and managed to score three goals from midfield.
It was the experience and leadership he offers that really makes him a valuable figure on and off the pitch though. That much seems clear to Gary Caldwell and co, with McDonald taking on a mentoring role to help with younger players upon his return.
Having only penned a short-term deal, it will be intriguing to see if his stay is extended in the near future.
Back at Valley Parade…
While McDonald reunites with Exeter City, former club Bradford City are looking to mount a stronger push for promotion under Graham Alexander after coming up short last season.
At 10th place in a crowded League Two table, the Bantams are in a respectable position. However, a good run of play might put them squarely in the running for promotion, since they are only two points out of the play-offs.
However, they need to improve their current performance after losing consecutive games against Fleetwood Town and Doncaster Rovers.
