When he joined Exeter City on loan in January, Luke Harris promised that he was a goalscorer. It may have taken him 13 games, but the Fulham loanee is finally off the mark, and buzzing for it.
The 19-year-old netted the second of the three first half goals as the Grecians made the most of their man advantage after Jordan Shipley was sent off for Shrewsbury after just six minutes of the League One clash on Tuesday night. The midfielder was given his marching order for a dangerous looking challenge on Ryan Woods.
It took nearly another half an hour before Exeter broke the deadlock, but once they did, the contest was never in doubt. Will Aimson opened the scoring when he flicked home an effort from a corner. Harris made it two when he finished from close range at the second attempt, before Jack Aitchison ended things as a contest in first half stoppage-time when he volleyed home from the edge of the box.
3-0 it stayed at full-time as City ended a five match winless run in style. While they stayed 16 th , the gap to the relegation zone is now ten points, and Harris was delighted to have contributed to the win.
“We are buzzing to get the three points really,” he said. “It was a good first half performance, sometimes can be harder against ten men, and we did well to get the first goal and then got a few more. We kept the ball, got the crosses in and then goal came. We had to keep going, and got the three points, and that is the most important thing.”
On his goal, which was a first in senior football, he added: “The goal has finally come and I am buzzing. I should have scored the first when Jack cut it back but I got the goal. I’d like to think floodgates will open, I will stay confident., and hope they will keep going in.
“I am loving it here, just love it. The last few games we have played well in all three but haven’t got the points. Today we showed what we can do and hopefully go on a run to the end of the season.”
