Hamling, a member of the Bulldogs’ 2016 title team, played seven seasons in Fremantle before accepting an extension.
He will, however, be joining the Swans, who have been looking for a crucial defender.
“Joel has been a highly valued member of our team since he joined the club at the end of 2016,” stated Peter Bell, the executive general manager of football at Fremantle.
He was a reliable contributor for us in the backfield before he suffered a serious ankle injury during the 2020 preseason.

“It was really pleasing to see Joel return to AFL football this year after taking such a long break from the sport and play the football we know he is capable of.”
“It is always a hard time of year, but Joel has a young family and clearly his decision to explore his options as a delisted free agent played a factor in that.”
It happens after James Jordan’s move from Melbourne to Sydney was officially announced on Friday, and the Swans are reportedly interested in Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams.
