Fulham plot January move for Sunderland youngster

Sunderland’s 21-year-old midfielder is attracting plenty of Premier League interest

Crystal Palace and Fulham are interested in a January move for Sunderland midfielder Pierre Ekwah.

The 21-year-old Frenchman left the West Ham academy to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal with Sunderland in January, and has since made 35 appearances for the Championship club.

The box-to-box midfielder Ekwah attended Chelsea’s academy from 2018 to 2021, and Nottingham Forest is also showing interest in him.

Prior to the January transfer window, central midfield has been designated as a priority position by both Fulham and Palace.

Joao Palhinha resigned with Fulham in September, but Fulham is aware that the highly sought-after Portuguese international may soon leave the team.

Due to additional injuries, center-back Chris Richards has been used in central midfield, leaving Palace without the injured Cheick Doucoure for the remainder of the campaign.

Both Palace chairman Steve Parish and manager Roy Hodgson have been transparent about the team’s January midfield reinforcement plans.

Sunderland hopes to hold onto Ekwah past January.

Under new manager Michael Beale, they are aiming to push for a play-off spot in the second half of the season and currently sit seventh in the Championship.
