Because Broja has had difficulty securing a spot in Chelsea’s starting lineup under new manager Mauricio Pochettino this season, he has been strongly linked to a move away from Stamford Bridge during the month of January.
Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Aston Villa are leading the race for the forward’s signature, and TEAMtalk exclusively disclosed on Monday that Pochettino is ready to let the player depart this month.
The two teams who have been after Broja the most are Fulham and Wolves, who both had loan proposals turned down earlier this month.
Now that TEAMtalk has learned that Fulham has been in negotiations with Chelsea for the past 24 hours in an attempt to find a solution, the club is considering making another offer for Broja.
After a brief stint with Tottenham Hotspur as a young player, the 22-year-old came through the Stamford Bridge club’s system, and it is understood that Fulham and Chelsea are drawing closer to a deal.
Fulham considered fresh Broja offer after Chelsea talks
Chelsea is reportedly looking for a loan with a buyout clause, as the Blues are pressing for a guaranteed summer transfer of Broja at a starting price of £35 million.
The prior offer from Fulham was just a purchase option, while Wolves’ offer was believed to be a straight loan with no commitment to a long-term agreement.
After forward Raul Jimenez, a summer transfer from Wolves, left Tuesday’s goalless draw between Fulham and Everton after 45 minutes due to a hamstring injury, the Cottagers will likely step up their efforts to finalise a deal for Broja.
Issa Diop, the centre back for Fulham, also suffered a hamstring injury on minute 75. In the post-match press conference, manager Marco Silva acknowledged that the injuries were “not a good sign.”
“Both came off with some hamstring issues there,” the speaker stated. Let’s wait and watch how things develop over the next few hours. Following an evaluation by the medical department, we will monitor their progress.
“It is not a good indicator when you have hamstring problems. There is always a risk involved when you play three tough games in a seven-day period.
“We can rotate at times, but it hasn’t always been easy to switch around some players, so we have to take this kind of risk.”
Fulham would break their transfer record if they committed to a £35 million summer deal for Broja. After winning promotion to the Premier League in 2018, the Ivory Coast’s Jean Michael Seri became the club’s biggest acquisition, costing £25 million.
