Alternative routes outlined as road closed in Gilligham after Police incident

A road has been closed after a “police incident” near a school shut it this morning (July 19). Marlborough Road in Gillingham, near The Falcon Cafe, was closed in both directions.

Traffic was said to be queuing due to the incident from Lock Street to the high street. Brompton Academy, which is in Marlborough Road, warned pupils to “avoid the area” earlier today.

In a letter shared to parents this morning, and seen by KentLive, principal Dan Walters said: “The academy has been informed that the bottom of Marlborough Road is closed due to a police incident. The incident is near The Falcon Cafe so access to Marlborough Road from Brompton Road/High Street is not permitted.”

He added: “Please take care travelling this morning and adjust your journey times if possible. Please ask your child to travel safely and avoid the area.”

An eye witness said police officers were in the area near the Great Lines Heritage Park
