An alternative strategy for Gillingham?

Gillingham head coach Stephen Clenmece switched formation for the visit of Grimsby Town

Stephen Clemence, the head coach of Gillingham, changed the formation during the weekend, and it appears to be the new strategy.

For the most part of his tenure as the Gills head coach, Clemence has abandoned his favoured 4-3-3 formation in favour of a wing-back system that better fit the personnel he had inherited.

The addition of wing-back Remeao Hutton during the January transfer window raised the possibility that the 3-5-2 formation would remain in place.

But, after centre defender Conor Masterson was sent out at Wimbledon, he was forced to sit it out due to suspension, which presented an opportunity to field a four-man defence once more on Saturday.
