Gillingham ‘drugs row’ murderer charged

A “gentle and lonely” disabled man was bludgeoned to death in his flat after complaining about his neighbour’s drug dealing, a court has heard.

The 68-year-old amputee Alan Wyatt was told by Maidstone Crown Court that he had “catastrophic” brain injuries in Firethorn Close, Gillingham.
Michael Bryant attempted to set fire to his body after attacking him, according to prosecutor Oliver Saxby, QC.
Residencing in the same apartment building, Mr Bryant, 36, denies both murder and arson.

According to Mr Saxby, the defendant then acknowledged that he had been at the flat on June 9, 2024, the day of the attack, after having first denied ever been there.
Nevertheless, he is now claiming that the attack was carried out by someone else, whom he attempted to stop but was afraid of, rather than having the guts to acknowledge the reality.
“There’s absolutely nothing to suggest that there was anyone else present when Alan Wyatt was attacked,”
