Gillingham new signings this summer

Mark Bonner, the manager of Gillingham, is adamant that he will have the last word on any players the team looks to recruit this summer.

This week, Bonner took over as manager, so he will already be aware of the players he is looking for. There had previously been efforts made to draw in new players before his arrival.

Together with managing director Joe Comper, the new guy will collaborate with the team’s director of football Kenny Jackett and head of recruitment Andy Hessenthaler.

According to club chairman Brad Galinson, the team is eager to employ analytics to aid in hiring the best candidates.

Bonner will bring his own ideas to the table, but he seems excited about the prospect of working together and drawing on the club’s expertise.

“Some really good work has already been done here,” he remarked.

“There are people in the club with a tonne of experience that I can rely on as a younger manager with 200 games, and I can’t wait for their assistance to get me through it.”

“We will go to work on that, and I will make the final decision about which players stay and which players go.

We will start to work right immediately on achieving our goals and strengthening the areas we feel are lacking.

We had a brief meeting on Tuesday, and we will continue working on that project going forward. As the season is still young and the play-offs are still in progress, getting things done is difficult.

Bonner has welcomed the support he’ll get at the club, saying: “That has become clear really quickly, that is one thing you look for, an element of stability in the people.

“I am good at building relationships, I think we can build a team that goes together and my job is to lead the football team

“I will be accountable for what happens on the grass but it takes a lot more people to build a really successful club, It is everyone, more we than me, therefore working with those people and the collaborative approach they have taken at the club is something I have been really impressed with.”

The club have yet to confirm Bonner’s backroom team and his no.2. Assistant coach Robbie Stockdale left along with Stephen Clemence at the beginning of last week.
