Kent Police halts driving as dangers ensues

Anyone found going back to areas where the order is in effect may face arrest.

This weekend, Kent Police will have more authority to combat reckless drivers and antisocial behaviour. There will be patrols in Medway, Gillingham, and Rochester.

Anyone returning to an area where the order is in effect may be arrested by police. This is in response to recent weeks of reports of racing, drifting, and loud noises.

The order was launched on Friday, March 14 at 5pm and will lift on Sunday, March 17 at 5am. Specific areas include in the Medway City Estate and Medway Valley Leisure Park, Rochester’s Hoath Way, Ito Way and Yokosuka Way, Gillingham’s The Chattenden area and Peninsular Way, and Hoo and Chatham Dockside Outlet car park.

Further dispersal orders will also be in place until 5pm on Sunday, March. 17 on the A21 Tonbridge Bypass and Flimwell Crossroads, North Farm industrial estate and Half Moon Lane. Superintendent Nick Sparkes said: “We are committed to ensuring residents and visitors enjoy their community without being disturbed by a small minority of people using their vehicles to commit anti-social behaviour.

“The county will be patrolled by officers, and anyone found to be causing a nuisance will have to leave and could face legal action. After being scattered, anyone who decides to re-enter the area should anticipate being arrested.”

Visit the Kent Police website to report antisocial behaviour. Do not hesitate to dial 999 if you believe that a crime is being committed.
