Kent Police Two children seriously injured after M2 crash’

Following a crash on the M2 near Gillingham on Thursday, December 28, two children are listed as being in a “serious but stable condition.” Shortly after five in the morning, something happened on the coastbound carriageway at Farthing Corner.

The collision between a grey Vauxhall Astra and a red Citroen Berlingo has been confirmed by Kent Police. “Two children who were travelling in the Berlingo were treated for injuries at the scene,” a Kent Police spokesperson stated.

“They were taken to hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the Astra was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.”

While collision investigations were being conducted, the M2 coastbound was closed for over seven hours between Junction 4 for Gillingham and Junction 5 for Stockbury and Sittingbourne. While the section of the motorway was closed, drivers were instructed to use a signed diversion route.

Since then, the motorway has been fully reopened, and local traffic patterns have resumed. The incident is being investigated by Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), and officials are pleading with anyone who may have pertinent information to come forward.

Anyone who saw either of the cars before the collision or witnessed the collision itself should email investigators with HW/KA/135/23 or call the SCIU witness appeal line at 01622 798538. Videos from dashcams can also be uploaded here.
