Police believe a man wearing high visibility clothing may have seen something of use to the investigation
A guy who may have witnessed a sexual assault on the A2 near Gillingham is being sought by the police. After the car they were driving in stopped on the main road, detectives are looking for a guy wearing high-visibility attire who may have observed the victim and suspect.
Early on Saturday, February 3, the victim had left a nightclub on Railway Street in Chatham and got into a blue convertible Mercedes, thinking it was a cab. The driver is said to have attacked her before pulling up in front of a kebab shop on Gillingham’s Watling Street, at the intersection of Holmside.
It is reported that the suspect stopped the woman from getting out of the car before taking off. Additionally offences were carried out before the car stopped at the victim’s home and she managed to leave
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen a man approaching women in Chatham, or who was later seen acting suspiciously in Gillingham,” stated Detective Constable Kelly Hui. At approximately four in the morning, the car pulled up onto the pavement in Watling Street, just as a man in a high-visibility jacket was passing by. We think he was observing what was happening inside the car, and we’re asking him to come forward.”
