UPDATE: The family of a little child who perished in a tragic road traffic accident in North Dorset has released his name.
At 5:21 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, Dorset Police received a complaint of an accident involving a grey Citroen DS9, a white Ford Transit van and a DAF cattle transporter truck and trailer on the A354 Salisbury Road at East Woodyates.
The family identified the nine-year-old passenger in the Citroen as Zac Roe from Andover, Hampshire, and he passed away at the site.
The thirty-something Hampshire woman who was driving the Citroen was initially detained on suspicion of murder but was later freed without facing any charges. Additionally, she was detained on suspicion of a driving infraction and has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
From the Major Crime Investigation Team, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third stated: “Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the sad death of Zac Roe.”
“Deep inquiries are being made as part of an ongoing investigation to determine the complete circumstances of what happened.”

After a deadly car accident in North Dorset, police are pleading with witnesses or anyone with dashcam evidence to come forward.
At 5:21 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, Dorset Police received a complaint of an accident involving a grey Citroen DS9, a white Ford Transit van and a DAF cattle transporter truck and trailer on the A354 Salisbury Road at East Woodyates.
Sadly, the nine-year-old Hampshire child who was riding in the Citroen died at the scene. His family has been informed.
The thirty-something Hampshire lady who was driving the Citroen has been placed under custody on suspicion of murder and a driving infraction. She is still being held by the police while being treated for her wounds at the hospital.
The Major Crime Investigation Team’s Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third stated: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the young boy’s loved ones during this very difficult time.”
After conducting a number of preliminary lines of inquiry, detectives are currently conducting an investigation to determine the specifics of what transpired.
“I would ask witnesses to please come forward if they haven’t already spoken to police or if they think they may have dashcam footage that is relevant.”
Additionally, I would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the way any of the participating vehicles were driven before the incident.
“Overnight, a thorough investigation of the scene was conducted, and I would like to express my gratitude to the public for their understanding and patience during the road closure.”
