The Golden State Warriors were expected to win the championship going into the 2023–24 campaign. They don’t even appear to be a playoff team, though.
The Golden State Warriors made some adjustments this past summer following their six-game loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals. In exchange for Chris Paul, the front office dealt Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards and signed Dario Saric and Cory Joseph as free agents.
The Warriors were expected to contend for a championship, led by Paul, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. But Golden State has had such a bad start to the season that several NBA analysts don’t believe the Warriors will go far in the postseason.
5. There Is No 3-Ball Shooting by the Golden State Warriors Okay,
In terms of 3-point percentage during the previous season, the Golden State Warriors came in second. As a unit, they shot 38.5% from beyond the arc.
But that number is down to 34.8% this season. They are the league’s 21st team.
The Warriors have led the league in 3-point shooting % during this run that has seen them win four titles and appear in six NBA Finals. That the Warriors are having a bad season is hardly shocking. They cannot succeed offensively if they are unable to make 3-pointers frequently.
Ultimately, the Warriors lack a dominant big man capable of making easy buckets in the paint. Due to the shooting abilities of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Golden State frequently depends on jumpers, a strategy that has been effective in the past. Although Thompson is beyond his peak and can no longer shoot from outside as regularly as he once could, Curry is still a very good player.
Likewise, with Andrew Wiggins. This season, the agile forward also appears to have lost his shooting form.
For the season, Stephen Curry is averaging 30.7 points. Klay Thompson is the second-leading scorer for the Golden State Warriors, with an average of 14.6 points. The difference in scoring between a team’s top and second-best players is rather significant.
For a Warriors player other than Curry to hit 20 points this season, it took more than 12 games. In the 11 games this season, Curry scored more points than any of his teammates by a margin of at least five, the longest such run since Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan in 1987–1988 (11).Curry stated, “There’s always been a certain approach to guarding us.” You’ve known for years where attention will be focused. usually attempt to take me apart in a pick-and-roll, keep your body tight on Klay—we need to react for whatever situation arises. We cannot simply carry on in the same manner and hope for a different outcome. Nothing alarming is happening. All you need to do is become a little bit more organised and intelligent.
As a team, the Warriors are averaging 112.9 points. 16th in the league is that. Their point per game from the previous season ranked them second in the NBA. The club doesn’t appear to be clicking in 2023–24 because Curry’s teammates are just not scoring the ball as they did during the championship run two years ago or last season.
One of the best shooters in NBA history, Klay Thompson, is only scoring 20 points once this season and is shooting 34.2% from beyond the arc. The former player for the Golden State Warriors is struggling to recapture his shooting form, but he doesn’t doubt his abilities.
“I feel amazing,” Thompson remarked. We’ve lost three straight, so I don’t feel well right now. However, I feel fantastic physically. It’s absolutely coming, if history is any guide. Why should one panic and exert pressure?
“I feel amazing,” Thompson remarked. We’ve lost three straight, so I don’t feel well right now. However, I feel fantastic physically. It’s absolutely coming, if history is any guide. Why should one panic and exert pressure?
“I’ve gone through this for over ten years. Is difficult. NBA is a difficult sport. I refuse to lose hope or self-assurance. I have demonstrated my resilience, for one. I’ll be back. I hope you have an amazing month. I didn’t shoot as well as I could have in the first ten games, but I’ll be really good in the following ten.
After this season, Thompson becomes an unrestricted free agent. Given that he didn’t receive an extension, is he pressing? It’s conceivable.
All season long, Thompson’s shooting hasn’t looked good. Every game, he loses open looks at least three times. On opening night against the Phoenix Suns, the guard went 3-of-11 from beyond the arc and 1-of-8 from three against the Detroit Pistons.
The Warriors won’t be successful this season if Stephen Curry’s splash brother can’t find his jump shot.
2. The Golden State Warriors Are Having Trouble Scoring Field Goals
With regard to field goal percentage, the Golden State Warriors rank 26th in the NBA. At this moment, they are unable to make 2-point or 3-pointers. Collectively, the Dubs are shooting 44.5% from the field.
From the field, Chris Paul shoots 37.6%, Andrew Wiggins shoots 39.5%, Jonathan Kuminga shoots 39.6%, and Klay Thompson shoots 42.3%. The supporting cast around Stephen Curry has terrible shooting performances.
If the Warriors want to reclaim the lead, Paul, Wiggins, and Thompson’s shooting will need to improve. Ineffective teams don’t win games on a regular basis. The best way to characterise Golden State at this moment is mediocrity, which is normally where they fall.
Draymond Green remarked, “We’re forcing shots or jumping and turning the ball over.” Therefore, I believe that we need to improve the floor’s space. Additionally, you can take advantage of their limitations if the floor is separated.
Right now, everything for the Warriors offensively is difficult. They are unable to produce simple shots. The Golden State dynasty could be coming to an end if it keeps up.
The third-oldest NBA club is the Golden State Warriors. Teams with dated rosters are no longer competitive. Yes, even at 35 years old, Stephen Curry is a superstar. But players like Draymond Green (33), Chris Paul (38), and Klay Thompson (33), are past their peak and can’t play at a high level every night.
This season, Paul’s average is a career-low 8.8 points. In addition, he is shooting a career-low 20.0% from beyond the arc and 37.6% from the field. There has been absolutely no return on the Jordan Poole deal with the Washington Wizards.
Right now, the Warriors appear to be a play-in team. The team’s inability to make jump shots can be attributed to its ageing squad. All of the shots are short because, except from Curry, none of the players have much lift on their jump shots.
When everyone believed the dynasty was finished, Golden State surprised the NBA by capturing the title in 2022. This appears to be the end of Golden State’s incredible run unless the front office of the Warriors pulls off a blockbuster trade to add younger players with shooting and scoring ability to surround Curry.
