Colchester United boss Danny Cowley on key Grimsby Town game..

The U’s can take a big step towards securing their League Two status with a win when they take on the Mariners, at the JobServe Community Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).

Colchester will head into the game full of confidence following their 3-2 victory over Crawley Town last weekend, where nearly 1,000 U’s fans cheered them to victory at Broadfield Stadium.

Cowley thinks they’ll need a similar team effort tonight, and the head coach of the U’s is asking everyone to pitch in.

“It’s going to need another huge effort on Tuesday,” stated Cowley.

“I’m glad we’re here at home.

“Everyone who loves Colchester United, whether they live in Colchester, Essex, or beyond, I beg you to come to the pitch and cheer us on, just like you did against Stockport and Wrexham. Your support will mean the world to us.

“It’s another really important game in the history of this football club.”

After their victory against Crawley, Colchester enters the game one point above the relegation zone with four games left.

Having played one extra game, Grimsby is five points and one spot ahead of them in the standings when they play them.

Cowley remarked, “What gives me confidence is the level of performance.”

“Game in, game out, the level of performance has been incredibly consistent while I’ve been here.

“We hope to gain the necessary points if we can maintain the same levels.”

Harry Forster’s header in stoppage time proved to be little more than consolation for Crawley as Hopper then scored again for the U’s after halftime.

“In that sense, we’re a different animal—we no longer feel sorry for ourselves,” Cowley remarked.

“We must continue assisting ourselves since we are aware that no one will assist us.

“It was a really poor goal to give up, but we responded really well, and it was significant to score the second goal just before halftime and the third goal right after—those were two fantastic scoring opportunities.”
