Grimsby Town have just six games to ensure their safety with just two points separating them and the relegation zone as we enter the final month of the campaign.
Grimsby Town occupy 21st spot in the table at present having endured a poor League Two campaign. David Artell’s side simply have to pick up points if they are to avoid a return to the National League.
Many players on the Mariners’ roster are targets for trades should they be demoted, and some are more likely than others to leave this summer if the team is forced into the National League.
Here, we examine three players who might leave Grimsby Town in the event of their relegation this year.
Toby Mullarkey
For Grimsby this season, right-back Mullarkey has been a reliable player, starting 34 of the 35 games he has played in the fourth division.
In a struggling team, the 28-year-old has contributed three assists and one goal to the score while also showing himself to be a reliable defensive back. His contract expires in 2025, but if non-league ballroom calls once more, the Mariners may decide to cash in.
Abo Eisa
Eisa is a standout player for Artell’s team; on the left side, he has four assists and nine goals this season.
The Sudan international’s present contract expires this summer, so moving abroad may be imminent whether or not Grimsby Town makes it to safety. It doesn’t seem likely that he would stay if they do go down, though.
Harvey Rodgers
This season, Rodgers has made 40 appearances across all competitions, and if they do make it, his impact will be crucial.
Grimsby’s importance was demonstrated when he gave up six goals the last time he was benched and five goals the last time he did not. The 27-year-old centre back’s contract expires in 2026, but if relegation occurs, there will undoubtedly be other teams interested in signing him.
