Grimsby town have ‘turned a corner- David Artell*

David Artell believes that Grimsby, who defeated promotion-chasing MK Dons at Blundell Park, have made progress in their ongoing fight to stay in League Two.

With ten games remaining, Artell’s team is now six points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a first-half winner from on-loan striker Justin Obikwu.

It was a noteworthy outcome for Grimsby, who went five games without a loss and added three clean sheets to their record, especially considering that Forest Green won somewhere else.

Even after Obikwu was brought down, Gavan Holohan saved a penalty kick, but Grimsby continued to gain ground on Colchester despite it.

In the end, the night was nice, according to head coach Artell.

We appear to have rounded a corner, which you may have noticed before.

“We were outstanding, and I don’t think they had a shot that went in.”

“We hit the post and had other breakaway opportunities, and we [should have] had another stonewall penalty in the second half.”

We fought, scraped, and had to defend like warriors, therefore we probably should have won by a larger margin. We performed precisely that, and in my opinion, we were worthy of the win.

Obikwu fired goalward, but Michael Kelly made a leg save to keep Grimsby ahead.

The Dons enjoyed extended possession of the ball without producing any obvious opportunities, and Dan Kemp flashed wide with a cross-shot at the opposite end.

In the 33rd minute, Obikwu scored after he was the first to respond quickly to an Abo Eisa strike, and Kelly saved Holohan’s penalty.

Kemp’s left-footed attempt to equalise was the closest

was pushed wide by Harvey Cartwright, the Grimsby stopper.

“The boys are very angry and frustrated in the changing room and we are very angry and frustrated with ourselves,” said visiting manager Mike Williamson.

“In my opinion, we must always analyse the actual performance in light of our goals and levels of control over the game.

When we reached the last third, it was clear that nobody’s quality was up to par with what we needed.

“I thought our build-up was excellent with the way the boys moved the ball and played it, and it was pleasing how many times we were able to get around their box.”

“We were unable to locate the last ingredient when we approached the final third.”
