Police attended Stanley Street on Tuesday afternoon – two men have been arrested
Two men have been arrested following an incident in which a man was assaulted with an ‘axe’ in Grimsby.
Police were called to Stanley Street at around 3.50pm on Tuesday afternoon after reports of an assault. Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital to be treated for “serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this time”, according to Humberside Police.
A 32-year-old man was located by officers nearby and arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. A 37-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of affray. Both men remain in police custody.
Detective Inspector Darren Gray from Humberside Police said: “We are currently in the early stages of our investigation, and I know an incident of this nature is likely to cause concern to the local community but I would like to offer my reassurance that we do believe this to be an isolated incident.
“Both men remain in our custody whilst our enquiries continue to understand the circumstances around the incident.
“Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next few days, conducting patrols and providing reassurance to the community. I would encourage anyone who may have concerns to please come and speak to our officers.
