Lennie Lawrence, the manager of Hartlepool United, has stated that he would make changes to his team in preparation for this weekend’s FA Trophy visit to Tamworth.
In his eight games as manager, the seasoned manager, who will turn 77 next week, has made steady selections.
In fact, Lawrence has attributed his team’s successful recent run to having a stable roster. Since taking over in October, he has made only a few changes, most of which have been brought about by suspension or injury.
But Saturday’s FA Trophy matchup with Tamworth, a team in the National League, is a very other story.
The former manager of Charlton, Middlesbrough, and Luton has stated that he wants to win the competition, but he also acknowledges that he intends to give players who are on the periphery of his team an opportunity to make their case.
While the Lambs are getting ready to host Premier League Tottenham in the FA Cup third round, Lawrence and his team are concentrating on aiming for the National League play-offs, so neither Pools nor Tamworth will consider the Trophy to be one of their top objectives.
This implies that both lineups will probably change this week. Lawrence told BBC Radio Tees Sport that he intends to make adjustments as Pools get ready to start their Trophy campaign.
“It would be good to progress through two or three rounds in this and then all of a sudden it gets interesting,” he stated.
“Tamworth will be a formidable opponent; they’ve had an incredible week. We’re taking each game as it comes.
“Our team will undergo adjustments because many players have been benched and haven’t played much.
“If I don’t give them some playing time, they won’t be prepared when they are called upon to start in a league game for any reason.
“They still want some match fitness, but I’m pleased with their conditioning.
“To begin with, there won’t be any inexperienced players, but the starting lineup will change.”
