Heartland dangerous organizers brace

KFVS – CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO Pastor Bob Lenz of Restoration Community Church stated, “So you see that today, these wonderful people here and here…that they’re showing up because they wanna touch a need.”

Helping during these times, he continued, requires a village.

Lenz and the non-profit worked together on a plan during this Wednesday, January 10 luncheon at the Salvation Army. When the weather cools off, they hope to house the homeless at the facility.

Lenz stated, “They’re going to release additional details later, but it appears that on Monday, they’ll open at 7 p.m. and have to close at 7 a.m.

Stephen Reinier is a Salvation Army captain. Having volunteered himself in the past, he is aware of the extreme need for assistance.

Reiner stated, “Without volunteers to come in and help for the community, it’s difficult for us to do large projects.”

He explained to us the purpose of the Salvation Army’s collaboration with other neighbourhood groups.

In an effort to save lives, he stated, “to try to advise a plan to get people off the streets and into a place that’s warm overnight.”

As these planners get ready for the upcoming winter season. According to Pastor Bob, there is still a need that is unmet.

Lenz stated, “It won’t work unless there are enough volunteers.”
