Hearts boss Steven Naismith offers frank response to Millwall managerial links’

Hearts boss Steven Naismith has brushed off speculation linking him with a switch to Millwall

Despite recently signing Neil Harris, a rumour from Football Insider earlier this week stated that the Lions were planning to appoint the Scotsman their next manager.

It does not seem as though Naismith will be on the move any time soon, however, after brushing off the links ahead of Hearts action this weekend.

Naismith dismissed the links in advance of this weekend’s Hearts game, so it doesn’t appear like he will be moving anytime soon.

On Monday night, Naismith’s team plays Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup quarterfinals. Ahead of the game, Naismith made sure to stress how much he is loving his current role as Hearts manager.

When asked about this week’s Millwall links, Naismith said, via the Daily Record, “It is what it is.”

I work because I want to succeed and because I want to accomplish specific goals in the game. People will unavoidably tell you that tales are what they are if you’re succeeding, but in the end, I’ll decide what I want to accomplish.
Right, aye, this is right for me, this is wrong for me—that’s who I will be if I succeed. Though I’m new at coaching, I’m not so foolish as to believe that I should just focus on the next one.

It’s as simple as that: if you make the incorrect move, you’re out.

“I’m grateful for everything I have and am enjoying every second of my time here. I’ve been a part of it for a while and I love it, and from the beginning, there has been a vision.

“Ann (Budge) asked me in our first conversation, ‘Tell me from your experiences, what’s good, what can we do better.'” That provides you with all the information you require from the initial exchange.

Steven Naismith linked with Millwall

As previously said, Naismith made those remarks subsequent to being connected in the media earlier this week to the management position at Millwall.

Football Insider broke the story first, stating that following an outstanding first season in charge up in Scotland, the Hearts manager is reportedly being considered by several Championship teams.

According to their source, Naismith is well regarded in coaching circles, having worked in Steve Clarke’s backroom with the Scottish national team. Millwall is one of the teams that is reportedly interested in hiring him.

Millwall recently hired Neil Harris

The websites mentioned above are provided even though Millwall does not currently have a managerial opening.

Neil Harris, a club legend, was just appointed to help the struggling team avoid relegation.

Interestingly, Harris signed a deal that extends beyond this summer to the summer of 2025, thus the team won’t even necessarily be searching for a manager this summer. Harris has had a respectable start to the season.

Naturally, unless they want to relieve Harris of his responsibilities.

Before making his most recent comeback to the Lions, Harris held positions as manager of Gillingham, Cambridge United, Cardiff City, and The Den permanently from 2015 to 2019.
