The Hearts transfer deal that divides opinions amongst the club

Michael Stewart has suggested that Hearts target Danny Armstrong, a star for Kilmarnock, as he would be “good value” for the massive Edinburgh club.

The Jambos have assembled a first-team roster that most other Scottish Premiership teams could only dream of having thanks to their successful summertime recruitment.

With one week left in the summer transfer window, Steven Naismith has already made ten new signings. The most recent is Andres Salazar, a loanee from Atletico Nacional.

In addition, Jambos legend Stewart (who wore the maroon jersey for two stints between 2004 and 2010) believes the team shouldn’t be finishing up their season just yet. Stewart is a BBC Sportsound pundit.

Danny Armstrong’s future uncertain

Killie winger Armstrong is in the last year of his Rugby Park contract, and Michael Stewart made a suggestion that he would like to see his former employers sign him.

Earlier in the summer, Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes said that negotiations with Armstrong had not progressed, despite the club’s desire to lock him down to a new contract.

Armstrong, who has been linked to Bolton Wanderers, is very likely to leave Kilmarnock come summertime, but he might depart Ayrshire before this Friday.

Stewart acknowledges that he would fully support Hearts attempting to negotiate a trade with Kilmarnock for Armstrong, saying that these are the players the Jambos ought to be pursuing in order to potentially sell them for “millions.”

Stewart on Armstrong to Hearts

Live coverage of the debate took place on BBC Sportsound on Thursday night following Hearts and Killie’s respective European losses to FC Copenhagen and Viktoria Plzen.

As Cammy Bell first noted, Danny Armstrong is nearing the end of his contract and has likely informed Killie that he has no intention of staying or extending it.

Stewart then chimed in with a simple “Hearts.”

“Yes, that’s one I mentioned off air,” Bell went on. Would he pique the interest of Hearts and add another level of interest to them?

Stewart clarified, saying, “Well, there was a lot of talk about Danny Armstrong last season, and I believe Joe Savage even came out and spoke about him.

“I don’t know where he got the figures for Danny Armstrong, but he was talking about figures possibly for him and there was a lot of pressure from fans.”

The main thing to remember is that Hibs are in talks to sign Luke McCowan for around £750k. These guys are capable of earning millions of dollars if they go on to play for the Hearts or Hibs, so in my opinion, those kinds of sums represent good value. Plus, you’ll have a top player at the time.

I’m speculating a little in order to possibly accumulate, and those players are excellent. McCowan and Armstrong, they would enter the Hearts’ side and improve them.

Then Neil McCann stated, “I think Derek McInnes and the Kilmarnock fans in particular won’t be enjoying that comment, but Danny Armstrong would be a good shout!”
