Transfer relief as Hearts skipper gives thoughts on outside noise

The Jambos star man stayed put in January despite constant speculation

Lawrence Shankland admits it was a relief when the transfer window closed and he could stop hearing his Hearts future debated.

Banging in the goals is always going to attract attention and the 28-year-old has 28 so far this campaign after banging in the same amount last season. There were rumours around interest from Saudi Arabia, England and Rangers with the most noise generated around the latter.

Shankland insists he didn’t let all the chatter affect his performances and the stats certainly back that up. But he was still glad when the January window slammed shut and the transfer stuff could all be forgotten at least for a few months when the summer one opens up.

The Jambos skipper is contracted until 2025 and talks over a new deal have stalled after the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement. That leaves the club open to losing their star man, and for a lower price than they could previously have demanded.
