Hibs currently sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership with six wins from their 20 fixtures so far this season and have jetted off to Dubai for their winter training camp, hoping to make the most of the sun. Ex-Hibee Tam McManus, however, feels his former club are short in several areas and has stressed that Nick Montgomery should be given ample opportunity to shape a the team with new arrivals.
This January transfer window, Hibs have yet to sign a player but are closing in on Leeds United star Kris Moore who is out in Dubai with the rest of the squad.
The club might be waiting on Josh Doig’s situation, as a move for the left-back would give Easter Road 27.5% of his transfer fee. Doig is 21 years old. Leeds and Rangers are reportedly in competition to sign the young Scot, who has had a standout season at Hellas Verona in Serie A.
The Leith-based team has had three permanent managers since 2021, with David Grey serving as interim manager twice in between. However, Easter Road has been advised by the former striker that the current manager needs the club’s support during this transfer window in order to make his mark on the roster.
“Some of the young boys might make a push out in Dubai but there’s no doubt Montgomery needs backing in the window,” the former Hibee wrote in his Daily Record column.
“I know he would have been thrilled to see some new faces on the plane, but that’s not how January operates.Although it appears that the Bill Foley investment may need to wait until the summer, one would think that preparations would have been made sooner. The manager will need to be given the freedom to add his own touch because Hibs are short on players.”
